As a specialist in predictive maintenance applied to the automotive sector CARFIT announces a partnership with VINCI Highways. Our latest product, CARFIT PULS, is a new connected vibration sensor marketed with a toll transceiver from VINCI Highways, to allow drivers to be better informed about the general state of their vehicles. This will increase a driver’s safety, and that of those driving on the VINCI managed highways.

Our CARFIT vibration sensor will also be used to monitor the condition of the undercarriage wear to parts such as the tires, wheels, shocks absorbers and brakes. The CARFIT PULS simply sticks on the back of the steering wheel. It communicates with an application and a chatbot on the user smartphones (Android/iOS) which provides the driver with maintenance alerts and maintenance recommendations.

CARFIT analysis technology compares the vibrations of a car to the standard of the car model to deduce diagnostic and replacement needs for the undercarriage wear parts which enhances safety.

Autotech startup based in France and in the United States which won the French Tech Ticket and has been accelerated by Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale-CA and by the Hub Bpifrance, CARFIT combines the science of NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) automotive vibrations with artificial intelligence technologies to create solutions for individualized predictive maintenance.

We do not always realize the wear of certain parts that ensure the proper functioning and safety of our cars. For VINCI Highways, the safety of drivers traveling on their highways is indeed a priority. Each year, more than 180,000 repairs are performed on the VINCI Highways network, 25% of which are directly linked to the condition of the tires. “The partnership between CARFIT and VINCI Highways is clearly in line with our desire for an ever more personalized service and safety prevention for our customers,” says Sophie BERNARD, Managing Director at VINCI Highways.

The electronic toll system service can be used on all motorways in France and throughout nearly 400 car parks.

Industrial IoT initiative to improve Efficiency and Safety in the Rail Industry

Global demand in the transportation sector continues to outpace supply and is recognized as a key area for economic growth. Leveraging Penteon’s electronic sensor development, telecommunications gateway infrastructure and enterprise cloud expertise, the Industrial IoT initiative will open a new era in low-cost, highly-secure rail sector services.

Penteon Corporation has announced a new Industrial IoT initiative to develop custom industrial sensing solutions for locomotives, rail cars and track-side equipment in partnership with Wabtec Corporation. Aging rail systems and lack of real-time data collection have become limiting factors in addressing this increasing demand. Embracing new technologies to acquire and analyze information across their operations and using that information to become more efficient and effective will deliver a more responsive and agile operating environment to rail operators.

The solutions planned for development by Penteon and Wabtec include data collection from rail equipment and systems to develop a real-time, holistic view on the health and status of locomotives, rail cars, and track-side systems. This IIoT project capitalizes on the more than 25 years of remote sensing engineering within Penteon and will deliver cost effective, secure and efficient solutions leveraging Penteon’s unique “Sensing as a Service” business model.

Food and drink festival uses smartphone scanner tech for crowd safety

The organisers of the Bolton Food and Drink Festival have used technology from Innotech Concepts and Libelium to keep attendees moving freely and safely around the event.

Held annually in the Greater Manchester town, the Bolton Food and Drink Festival gives attendees the chance to taste cuisine from all over the world. Last summer, over the August Bank Holiday, it broke all previous records, attracting 267,000 visitors. But pulling in such numbers comes with its own challenges in terms of keeping attendees moving around, freely and safely. 

Looking for a better way to understand and manage the crowds, the festival organisers enlisted the support of Innotech Concepts on a project focused on visitor data monitoring. The Castleford, West Yorkshire-based start-up specialises in data collection for the transport and events sectors, with an emphasis on areas including connectivity, public safety and evacuation. 

Innotech provided the event’s management team with sensor specialist Libelium’s Meshlium IoT platform, to study the behaviour and activities of visitors in real time, based on detection of smartphones via the Meshlium Scanner.

Data to the rescue

Two connected scanners were installed at the main entrance of the event venue and a third was deployed in the car park, as a means of monitoring the location, length of stay and individual journey routes of visitors. These scanned for smartphones every 15 minutes via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. 

To protect customers’ identifies, all information was kept anonymous and sent over a secure 4G network to Innotech’s proprietary analysis platform, Innotech Insights Crowded. Here, data can be transformed into visual charts to convey key data more easily, but the platform also offers a raw data download option, enabling users to slice and dice data in the ways that most interest them. 

From this, the event’s organiser were able to establish a number of metrics: duration of stay; visitor volume per location; visitor volume per day; most popular locations; most popular individual and group routes; total visitors.
