AT&T moves further into smart cities and connected cars with two partnerships

AT&T is on a continuous run helping cities across the world to become smart with two new announcements over the past week.

The telecoms giant has signed an agreement with IDA Ireland and Dublin City Council to cooperate and exchange information around smart cities solutions, while also entering into a long-term partnership with members of Bridge Alliance to extend their global connected car leadership to new territories.

The smart cities initiative will help develop an open dialogue of IoT best practices with Ireland and Dublin, which is developing into a leading IoT location.

As part of this collaboration with Ireland, AT&T will also explore opportunities to work with other organisations on IoT-related development projects across the country, including Dublin’s Docklands IoT project.

The collaboration with Bridge Alliance, a leading group of mobile carriers in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, will lead the framework to expand the geographic coverage of AT&T, which could provide to automotive manufacturers who looking to enhance their infotainment offerings in the growth markets served by members of Bridge Alliance. This will help the 22 global automotive and long-haul truck brands that AT&T works with create an improved driving experience for their global customer base. At present, AT&T connects more than 11 million cars in the United States and abroad.

Moreover, this will also help customers collectively served by Bridge Alliance to access solutions like Wi-Fi hotspots, internet radio and live traffic. Until now, these features have been more difficult for automotive manufacturers to implement globally.
