  • Deutsche Telekom and China Unicom have announced a strategic partnership at Mobile World Congress 2017.

    From now on, both firms will jointly enhance their M2M competencies and promote the expansion of existing and new technologies such as NarrowBand IoT and the expansion of IoT platforms, with the goal: to lay a firm foundation for continued growth and joint business opportunities in Europe and China.

    Local network connectivity for customers in Europe and China

    The cooperation allows customers from Deutsche Telekom to equip and manage devices with M2M connectivity also in China and manage this connectivity via the same portal that they use for Europe and other regions. China Unicom customers will experience the same benefits on the China Unicom portal when they are offering M2M products and solutions in Europe. This move is important because the demand for global M2M connectivity is steeply increasing. According to the GSMA, China will account for 39 % of all global cellular M2M connections by 2020, representing by far the largest M2M market. German technology and service companies are already investing heavily in tapping the potential of the emerging Chinese M2M and IoT markets. On the other side, Chinese Internet and technology companies have entered the field of IoT through wearable intelligent terminals, smart home, mobile health care, and many other businesses, and are eager to offer their services also in Europe. The interconnection of the Deutsche Telekom and China Unicom platforms will offer simple access for German and Chinese M2M customers to the other respective network.

    Technology partnership enhances customer benefits

    Gemalto will supply GigSky with its On-Demand Connectivity (ODC) services on a GSMA compliant embedded SIM (eSIM) with remote management capabilities.

    Devices enabled with these eSIMs will allow end-users to choose short-term data plans across the globe. GigSky offers mobile connectivity solutions for consumers and businesses with service available in over 140 countries for a large variety of devices including iPad with Apple SIM.

    Gartner predicts that over 20.8 billion devices will be connected by 2020. OEMs and mobile operators need a standardized way to manage consumer eSIM subscriptions. As pioneers in on-demand, seamless global connectivity, Gemalto and GigSky are well positioned to quickly introduce innovative, standards-based eSIM subscription solutions.

    Datora Mobile to Launch Ingenu’s RPMA Network in Brazil

    Reliable, secure IoT network to provide machine connectivity to largest market in Latin America.

    Ingenu Inc. and Datorá Telecomunicações Ltda. (“Datora”), today announced the launch of the Machine Network™ in the country of Brazil.

    The Internet of Things (IoT) network, powered by Ingenu’s RPMA® (Random Phase Multiple Access) technology, will serve Brazil’s population of over 200 million, providing reliable connectivity for IoT/M2M applications such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, logistics and smart city.

    Datora will deploy the Machine Network throughout Brazil, with expected completion in late 2018. The network will be integrated with its IoT Connectivity Abstraction Layer Solution (IoT CAL Solution), which allows different types of seamless connectivity for its clients.

    The initial RPMA rollout will be in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil’s third-largest state in terms of GDP and home of the headquarters of CODEMIG (Companhia de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais), a company responsible for significant economic development in the State and a Datora Mobile shareholder.
